NYOJ's Senior Orchestra collaborated with the Downtown Kingston Music theatre summer intensive theatre camp. They performed excerpts from the musical Fiddler On The Roof and Once On This Island. DTKMT is an International Collaboration with Grammy Award Winner Delfeayo Marsalis and the Uptown Music Theatre, New Orleans. The project is centred on the development of music and culture in downtown Kingston and training of youths in the performing arts. Participants receive training in Drama, Dance, Music and many aspects of Technical Theatre. This collaboration exhibits the power of the arts to enrich the lives of children as well as to provide sustainable economic opportunities for participants and their communities. The Downtown Kingston Music Theatre was created to provide a channel for children to tap into their own creative talents and also to gain meaningful skills that will enable them to participate in the creative arts eco-system. They receive training not only in the performing arts (acting, dancing, music), but also technical theatre skills, (set design, costume making, sound and light production and stage management).
